A Quick Guide to Our Non-Woven Polypropylene Bags

Cotton bags are easy enough to understand – everyone knows that cotton is a natural material which doesn’t harm the planet. However, with so many different types of synthetic material around, it can be difficult to tell which ones are beneficial and which ones aren’t. We certainly get a lot of questions about our non-woven polypropylene bags, so we thought we’d write this quick guide to the material.

What is Non-Woven Polypropylene?

Non-woven polypropylene (NWPP) is a by-product of oil manufacturing. You’ve probably already used bags which are made from this material – the vast majority of retail ‘bags for life’ are created from NWPP. Despite the name, many of these bags are pressed with a design to make the plastic appear woven, since both businesses and customers tend to value them for their ability to look like natural cloth.

What are the Benefits?

Aside from being incredibly long lasting, NWPP bags are noted for their strength and reliability. They lie flat for easy storage, and are completely water-resistant. This means that they’re not too vulnerable to becoming grubby, so you can carry almost anything within them without having to worry about moisture and dirt seeping into the material. Ultimately practical, they can be easily hand washed using just soapy water.

Is NWPP Environmentally Friendly?

This is one of the most common questions we receive about NWPP bags, and we can understand people’s concerns. After all, unlike our completely natural cotton bags, these ones are made of plastic, and plastic is bad for the environment, right?

Well, while this can be true, it’s usually only a problem if the material is either single use or non-recyclable. Luckily, NWPP is neither. Aside from the fact that it’s made from a by-product, meaning that it actually saves on waste, NWPP is 100% recyclable at the end of its life. In fact, Greenpeace has created a ‘pyramid of plastics’, which scrutinises the production, use, and end of life potential of plastic products. NWPP was rated just one step away from the top of the pyramid, behind only ultra-advanced bio-based plastics.

Our NWPP bags can be printed in a range of colours to suit your brand, and can be made with a variety of handle types. Don’t hesitate to get in contact today for more information.
